Warhammer Hype
February 19, 2008
I try to keep up on the WAR online hype. I haven’t decided if I’ll be making the switch or not. My curiosity will probably get the best of me and I’ll give it a try because I’m a pvp’er and solo’er at heart. The Keen and Graev blog is a huge supporter of WAR. I’m not sure it’s the fix for pvp in MMO’s that he’s hoping it will be. After reading this, http://www.keenandgraev.com/?p=811, I’m not sure if the Realm vs Realm PvP is a significant enough change for the better in comparison to a WoW PvP server. I really enjoy the Arena experience in WoW. Dieing and rezzing multiple times in Battlegrounds and World PvP isn’t the cats meow for me most of the time. I like to kill people and have them stay dead. Or, get whacked myself and know that next time I better do something differently in the same scenario (or get motivated to upgrade my gear).
I look forward to something different and a game designed for RvR, the real war of Player vs. Player that gets my rocks off. Retiring my Rogue and going Hunter is a blast right now. About the time I get him to 70 and geared up with Arena gear, the Wrath of the Lich King expansion and WAR will be out. I’ve only got so many hours in my day and a real life too….hmmm, what to do…..what to do….

World PVP in a PVE server
February 16, 2008
Transferring from a PvP server to a PvE server is an experience. I did it to join a friend who was starting an end level raiding guild and needed a little extra fire power and my charming personality. Long story short – the guild died off and now I’m stuck as a pvp’er on a PvE server.
That’s ok. Makes levelling a hunter much easier without the gank-a-thon of a pvp world. But, last night I decided to attack a Rogue’s alliance npc escort quest in Searing Gorge. I’m not sure which one it is, but it’s right by the Grimeselt Dig Site with the outhouse quests. So, it flagged me and the rogue hit my pet and I commenced to concussion shot, kite, serpent sting, and Bestial Wrath the poor little Gnome to death. He was 1 level above me so I felt pretty good about it, regardless.
I hung around and finished up my quest in the area. The little gnome rez’s and I let him heal up and offer a duel after our PvP timer wears off. He emotes me to wait. Then tries his escort quest again. This time I let him do it without interference. The Roguish Rogue that he is comes back, flags and we commence the fight….except…..He has a Hunter buddy this time hiding for the gank. Yep, down I go.
Morale of the story is….World PvP on a PvE server is alive and well. Just really backstabbing nasty. No red dots on the radar. Oh, and don’t give quarter to the enemy. At all. Ever.
AV is broken, still
February 15, 2008
Last night I spent a couple hours getting mopped up by the Alliance in AV trying to complete my daily quest on my Rogue. It’s weird, I went for a week straight winning my first games to complete the daily quest. This week, I just can’t seem to win no matter how long I play or whether we have a good Defense or simply zerg on Offense.
First thought is that the battleground map itself needs to be reworked. Particularly the Graveyard situation. I think there should be a central location for both teams to spawn that is untakeable instead of the etreme north and south caves. This would lead to clashes in the middle and if you die on Defense or Offense without a graveyard to spawn to you at least have a choice of going one way or the other the next time around. For example, I was doing the offense thing and trying to take out Balinda (somehow I ended up tanking her without much for heals) and died before any graveyards had been taken. Poof! Guess what? Might as well go play D whether you like it or not cause you just spawned at the bottom graveyard.
It’s better than it used to be, but it still isn’t right.
Patch 2.4
February 13, 2008
So, I’m not really sure when this patch is coming out. I guess no one is, but from reading over at Mania’s Arcania blog I am ecstatic about the change to respecing costs. No more paying gold for spells and abilities you’ve already learned and paid for previously! That’s huge. I like to experiment with builds and Blizz is always changing (or nerfing) something. I haven’t tried out the Marksman way of life yet, strictly because I’m still saving for my elite flying mount.
Anyway, there’s lots of other nifty things going on with Patch 2.4 also, I encourage you to check out Mania’s article on it here: http://www.maniasarcania.com/2008/02/09/ptr-240-patch-notes/#more-460
Hello world!
February 12, 2008
Yay! My first post! After reading all the great Hunter blogs and Ming’s infamous Rogue blog, I’ve decided to start my own. I’ve levelled a Rogue and a Pally to level 70 and played the Rogue in Arena and some PVE (Kharazan too many times to think about….) but I’m currently in love with my Hunter, Bendax on Gnomeregan server. This blog will be about WoW, with a pvp and arena focus from a hunter perspective.
